Shared Pet Agreement

_______________________ (hereafter “Party 1”), ___________________________ (hereafter “Party 2”), _______________________ (hereafter “Party 3”), and _______________________ (hereafter “Party 4”), hereby agree to share responsibility for {Pet’s Name} while residing together at {Rental Address}.

The parties agree to equally share in the day-to-day care of {Pet’s Name}, an {animal type}. Roommates will also share any costs related to the pet, including veterinary care, food, and supplies. The agreement laid out below can be modified by agreement of the parties at any time.

• Parties will ensure that {Pet’s Name} is fed {wet/dry} food {on demand/at certain times/etc.}. Everyone will {take turns/follow a chore chart/etc.}.
• {Party 1} will shop for or order food, litter, and other supplies on a {weekly} basis and be reimbursed in {whole/part} by the other parties.
• {Party 2} has or will procure stainless steel bowls for food and water, {Party 3} will get bedding and a litter box, and {Party 4} will buy some toys. Each roommate will contribute {amount} weekly to save up for {larger item}.
• Parties agree that {Pet’s Name} will see a veterinarian for routine checkups each {year/etc.}. If the animal is sick or injured and {one or more} roommates agree that emergency care is needed, {Party/Parties} will transport {Pet’s Name} to the vet. Roommates all {need/need not} agree on a treatment plan. All vet fees will be shared equally among the parties.
• Parties agree that {Pet’s Name}’s safety and longevity is paramount, and thus will ensure that {they are walked regularly/kept indoors/groomed monthly/receive any prescribed medication/etc.}
• If any party moves out, {Pet’s Name} will remain the pet of the remaining roommates. If all but one person moves out, {Pet’s Name} will become the sole responsibility of that person, unless otherwise agreed upon.
