College Counselor Agreement
This agreement is made on {date} between {Parent Name(s)}, hereafter “Parent,” and {Counselor Name}, hereafter “Counselor,” regarding college admissions for {Student Name}, hereafter “Student.”:
The Parent agrees to the following:
- Counselor will be paid {amount} for services commencing during {grade level} and continuing until {time/event}. The payment structure is {deposit/increments}. The missed appointment fee is {amount}.
- {At any time/until date}, Parent may cancel this agreement upon payment of {amount} due for services rendered to that point.
- Counselor, as member of {professional organization such as the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC)}, will follow the ethical guidelines of the profession. Counselor will not write essays, misrepresent student extracurricular activities, or otherwise engage in unethical behavior on behalf of Parent(s) or Student.
- The Parent(s) are ultimately responsible for confirming that chosen colleges are within budget. Counselor strongly suggests early completion of FAFSA and/or CSS Profile forms as well as use of Net Price Calculators to help estimate cost of attendance for each school.
- The Parent(s) and Student are responsible for meeting all deadlines, including timely submission of application materials (Early Action and Regular Decision, etc.), as well as coordination with high school and college admissions staff. Counselor will not be responsible for securing letters of recommendation.
The Counselor will provide:
- Initial meeting with Parent(s) and Student to learn more about the student and family, discuss personal and academic goals, and give an overview of services and strategies for admission.
- Preparation of a customized college list of reach, target, and likely (safety) schools for Student based on factors such as: student profile, course of study for preferred major, geographic location, size, and financial affordability. Public and private schools, both in-state and out-of-state, religious and unaffiliated, will be included, unless otherwise specified by Parent(s) and Student.
- {Monthly} sessions with Student for {period of time}, with sessions becoming {weekly} during {senior year}.
- Guidance in course selection for {class year(s)}, as well as insights into course rigor, stats (grades and standardized test scores), extracurricular, and other factors.
- Referral to specialist with expertise in admissions for student athletes, if relevant.
- Assistance in standardized test preparation for ACT and/or SAT as follows: {self-study materials, referral to test prep specialist, etc.}. Recommendations on whether and where to apply test-optional as well as how many times to test. Referral to testing accommodations if needed.
- Guidance in determining whether to apply Early Decision to a college, and the factors involved in that choice.
- Guidance in brainstorming essay topics based on Student’s genuine interests. Review of up to {amount} essay drafts. Light editing of Common Application, supplemental, honors college, and other essays without altering Student’s voice.
- Assistance in preparation of admissions materials, including appropriate guidance on application forms. Assistance with FAFSA and/or CSS Profile {will/will not} be provided. Referrals to lists of potential scholarships
- Preparation for interviews with admissions staff, alumni, or scholarship committees.
- Research in relation to merit and need-based scholarships, up to a total of {total}, {will/will not} be provided.
- Guidance on appeals and waitlists, including review of letters of continued interest.
- Guidance in deciding from among admissions options.
The Counselor does not guarantee admission to any school, nor ultimate satisfaction with the college attended.
The Counselor reserves the right to discontinue counseling in the event of {number of missed appointments, missed payment, failure of Parent(s) or Student to actively participate in the process, ethical breach, etc.}.
