Child Smartphone Agreement
This agreement spells out the requirements for {Child}'s use of a cell phone. Not following these rules will result in the phone being taken away, temporarily or permanently, depending on the offense. The Child agrees to the following rules, as well as any not written here at the Parents' discretion:
- You must answer (if able) whenever a Parent calls or texts. If the call or text must be missed, it should be returned as quickly as possible. Find My Friends will be enabled.
- Be wary of accepting calls from an unknown number. If answered, and the caller is unknown or not expected to be in touch regarding a legitimate matter (school, theater, volunteering, etc.), disconnect immediately and tell a parent.
- Check before installing any new apps or registering for any services. This includes, but is not limited to, social media (Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, etc.), games, and streaming services. Choose secure passwords and write them down. Set a lock code on the phone, write it down, and do not forget it.
- All social media accounts must immediately be set to Private/Friends Only, and you must friend your {mother/father/aunt/etc.}; do not block her from following you on any services. Turn off Location Services and be mindful of publicly posting where you are.
- The phone or any apps, etc., used on it may not be used to bully, harass, tease, insult, or otherwise cause hurt or distress to any person. Do not post anyone else's picture without their permission. If you experience bullying, or are concerned about the safety of another person, notify us immediately. Do not join any "hate" or "slam pages," fake dating-match accounts, etc. Do not participate in rating or beauty pageant "games." Delete any offensive comments by others on your posts. Choose appropriate display names and bios.
- Parents will have access to all passwords and the cell phone lock code.
- Parents can and will check any communication, app activity, etc. anytime.
- The cell phone must be put away (with parents or in common area) before bedtime.
- Any photos taken or sent using the phone must be respectful, legal, and in good taste. No nude or provocative photos can be taken or sent with the cell phone.
- The usual rules for online viewing of videos and other content apply. Nothing inappropriate. Also, streaming is best done via Wi-Fi, as it uses too much cellular data.
- Be wary of public Wi-Fi; it is insecure.
- Be aware that nothing on a cell phone can fully be considered private, as phones can fall into the wrong hands.
- Not everyone online or using apps has good intentions, or is who they appear to be. Do not "friend" or otherwise communicate with people you don't know and trust in real life.
- Follow all school rules in regard to cell phone use.
- Guard the phone carefully; protect it from theft, damage, and loss.
