Child Computer Time Contract

    

I, {Child's Name}, understand that computer use is a privilege and that my parents have rules in place to keep me safe. I will follow these rules and ask questions if there's something I don't understand:

• Computer use is limited to {number} hours a day, not including homework use.
• I can use the computer only when my homework and other chores are done (unless my parents grant permission.) If my grades fall or I develop behavior problems, I understand that my computer privileges can be revoked.
• I will not enter any site that requires me to be over 18.
• I will not open any attachments or click on any links from people or websites I don't know.
• I will not buy or download any software, product, game, video, song or upgrade without asking my parents' permission first.
• I will not give out my password, full name, address or phone number to anyone online without asking my parents' permission first.
• I will not agree to meet with anyone I meet online without asking my parents' permission AND being accompanied by a chaperone.
• I will use clean, respectful language when posting or interacting online.
• I understand that my parents will monitor the sites that I look at and know my passwords in order to keep me safe.
• If I feel worried, scared, confused or unsure, I will talk to my parents or a trusted adult.

We, {Parents' Names}, agree to abide by the following conditions in order to promote safety and build trust:

• We will keep safe searches on and keep a log of passwords and safe, recommended sites.
• We will monitor link clicks in order to ensure safe behavior.
• We will allow our child to start a social media site in order to build friendship networks.
• We will make every effort to get to know our child's online friends in the same way we get to know his/her friends from school.
• We will be open and understanding to any issue or problem our child encounters on the internet, and make every attempt to solve it calmly and informatively.
